Legal project management tip of the month: Be crystal clear about who is responsible for each task

As noted in an earlier post, efficiency requires breaking down large and complex matters into discrete well-defined tasks.  When you do this, make sure that the primary responsibility for each task is clearly assigned to a single individual.  Lawyers on the team will then have a sense of ownership of certain tasks, and the lawyer who is responsible for the entire matter will have a clear view of who is responsible for what.

The first Wednesday of every month is devoted to a very short and simple tip like this to help lawyers increase efficiency, provide greater value to their clients and/or develop new business.
